Back to about us

My Path to becoming a Registered Massage Therapist came to me as a result of my prior career as a Riding Instructor, Competitor and Trainer of horses for Show Jumping. I have always been an active and sports oriented person including gymnastics, dance and riding to name a few and as such I have had my share of musculoskeletal injuries, yet it never occurred to me to seek therapy for them. It was not until my Thoroughbred, Prieto developed arthritis in his hind ankle and I had to modify training and care for him, that I was made aware of the benefits of massage to help increase one’s range of motion and maintain or improve muscle and joint health. My Veterinarian was also an Equine Chiropractor; I helped him with the care of my horse during the adjustments as it is a two person job, and became interested in the effects of the combination of massage and Chiropractic treatment for improved overall health and mobility of my horse.  I was lucky to train with an Equine Massage Therapist at the 31 horse Equestrian Center I helped run in Southern Vermont which led me to include practicing Equine Massage as an integral part of my training regime; I was amazed to see the affect it produced, not only to the tissue health but also to help decrease the stress and anxiety of “Competition Day”. When my horse career was winding down it became a natural progression for me to go back to school and learn the human anatomy to increase my knowledge and continue to help with massage and working with people.

I graduated in 2007 from Career Development Institute of Health Science and Technology’s Registered Massage Therapy program eagerly prepared to embark on my career helping people with their musculoskeletal restrictions and overall holistic health as I had previously done for my equine clients. After having substantial success with hydrotherapy on the horses, and wanting to add to my knowledge of the Swedish techniques I learned in school, I completed two Hot Stone Massage courses as well as an Aquatic Massage certification in 2008

I have experienced the benefits of both Chiropractic and Massage treatments for my own “life” injuries, one of the most poignant ones happened four days after getting my license, I broke a bone in the arch of my right foot putting me out of commission for six weeks. The first hand knowledge I gained from my experience has given me a profound insight into the trials and tribulations incurred when physically injured and the benefits of treatment to improve results, and help you get back to your daily activities.

In October 2009 I moved to the Upper Beaches with my 15 year old Jack Russell and added to the family with a new Russell in late November, nothing like an energetic puppy to help explore the beaches, my new community.

When I found Therapy Lounge in the summer of 2010, I was delighted to find that is a combined Massage and Chiropractic practice and able to address the both muscular and skeletal aspects of whole body wellness I knew this was where I wanted to be and joined the practice in August.

I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your massage needs and goals to assist with your treatment requirements.
